Persons appointed to this position will receive the privileges and benefits associated with regular employment status.Duties:Assess the health status of patients through history taking and physical examination.Order and interpret appropriate medical tests and laboratory values to assist in making a diagnosis.Prescribe drugs and medical devices used for patient intervention.Perform and document procedures.Document patient encounters assessments, diagnoses and plans of care in the medical record.Initiate and assess the effectiveness of therapy for critical illness.Collaborate with other health care providers to provide and coordinate care given in the CVICU.Assist in the education of residents and medical students rotating through the CVICU.Provide care for patients with Advanced Cardiac Therapies (i.e. VAD, ECMO, Impella, Centrimag, etc)Provide care for heart and lung transplant recipients in the acute settingOptimization of therapy in pre-VAD patientsInstitute quality initiatives to improve the care of critically patients.Provide information and counseling to patients and families.Other duties as assigned.UNIVERSAL COMPETENTCIESCollaboration and Embracing Diversity: Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.Positive Impact/Achieving Results: Ability to utilize existing resources and learning to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals/needs. A Master's degree in Nursing is preferred. If a Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required.Physician Assistant (PA) - Graduation from an accredited PA educational program.Experience Required:Typically three to five years of demonstrated experience in area of clinical practice is required.Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.Certifications:ARNP - Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.ARNP - Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa is required.PA - Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners and/or hold current certification by the NCCPA.Desirable Qualifications:Prior training or specific experience in critical care with an emphasis on cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery patients/diseases.Prior experience with VAD, transplant and ECMO patients d
